If someone told me a year ago that I’d be preparing for a gym photoshoot in December 2023, I probably would’ve laughed it off. At the time, my life felt like a whirlwind of challenges, with no sign of slowing down. But looking back, every struggle, every "canon event," shaped me into the person I am today. Here’s how it all unfolded.
The Moving Marathon
In 2023, I’ve had to pack up and move house five times. Five. Each move felt like a fresh start, but it came with its own set of hurdles—adjusting to new environments, dealing with student accommodations, and somehow trying to keep my life together amid the chaos. It wasn’t easy balancing the physical and emotional toll of moving while working two jobs, but I refused to let my circumstances define me. Onwards and upwards.
Work, Family, Repeat
Maintaining two jobs was already demanding, but it became even harder as I took on the responsibility of supporting my family. They’re my rock, and even when the pressure felt unbearable, I knew I had to step up. There were days when I felt completely drained, but I reminded myself why I was doing it. Family always comes first.
Losing My Best Friend
He didn't pass away now but due to moving house so many times, we had to give him back. He wasn’t just a pet—he was my companion, my comfort, and my little slice of joy in an otherwise turbulent year. Losing him felt like losing a piece of myself, and for a while, I struggled to find that spark of motivation again. The worst part is, I didn't get to say goodbye to him :(
Heartbreak and Betrayal
As if life wasn’t challenging enough, I discovered that my ex had cheated on me. The betrayal hit hard, leaving me questioning my worth and my ability to trust. It was a low point, no doubt, but I realised I couldn’t let someone else’s actions dictate my future. It was time to focus on me.
Choosing Health Over Excuses
Through all of this, I made a promise to myself: no matter what life threw at me, I would maintain a healthy lifestyle. There were days when the last thing I wanted to do was hit the gym or prepare a balanced meal, but I pushed through. Working out became my therapy—a way to channel my pain and frustration into something positive. Meal prepping and staying consistent with my diet gave me a sense of control when everything else felt uncertain. At one point I was on 1,600 calories and had to do 40 minutes on the stair master, this was tough when I was going through mental battles.
The Gym Photoshoot Goal
Somewhere along the way, I set a goal for myself: a gym photoshoot in December 2023. It wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about proving to myself that I could overcome anything. This photoshoot became a symbol of everything I’d endured and a celebration of the resilience I found within.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
As I prepare for the photoshoot, I can’t help but feel proud. Every challenge—every move, every tear, every heartbreak—led me here. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. This journey has taught me that strength isn’t just about lifting weights; it’s about lifting yourself up, time and time again, no matter how heavy life feels.
In December 2023, when I stand in front of that camera, I didn't just see the results of my hard work. I saw a person who refused to give up, even when the odds were stacked against me. And that’s a victory no one can take away from me.
